I use Canva a lot as an illustrator, shop owner, and website developer to edit and create graphics. Keep reading to see the features that I use almost every time I create any design in Canva.
If you're looking for a simple, user-friendly way to design anything from a social media post to a simple website, Canva is the way to go. Canva is an online graphic design tool that you can use to create social media posts, websites, posters, banners, presentations and more. Canva has free and paid account options. I use a paid account as a professional designer, but quality designs can also be created easily with a free account.
In this article, I'm going to share the top 5 Canva features that I use most often and why I think they're so awesome!
Feature #1 - Background Remover
Canvas' Background Remover feature is a great way to quickly remove the background from an image. This is especially useful when trying to create a professional looking image, or when trying to make an image fit a specific size or shape. It's incredible simple too. Just upload the image to your "Uploads" in Canva. When you add the image in your project, then you will get the option to "Edit Image" in the top left of the editor. Scroll down to "Background Remover", and when you click it you'll see the background around the main image in the photo disappear. This tool is surprisingly accurate on the first try most of the time too. Very seldomly do I have to adjust the threshold and adjust what was removed.
Format each tip's title to H2 to keep your post neat.
Feature # 2 - Element Library
I appreciate the vast library of icons and images that are available. The library contains an enormous amount of resources, including photos, illustrations, icons, and more. With so many options at your disposal, it's easy to find the perfect elements for your design. You even get recommendations on more visual elements to use in your design based on elements that you've chosen already. This is especially useful for keeping your design cohesive.
Feature #3 - Template Library
When you create a design with Canva, you have access to a library of templates. This library contains a wide range of templates for different design types, including:
Social media posts
Blog headers
Invitations
Presentations
Flyers
Websites
With so many templates to choose from, you can easily find a starting point for your design. Plus, using a template can help you stay on brand and keep your designs consistent. I love that you can customize any of the templates to fit your brand, and Canva has over 1 million templates to choose from.
Feature #4 - Photo Grids and Frames
Have you ever wondered how people get photos into fancy shapes like circles, words, or blobs? Canva has elements that they call "frames" that you can drag and drop photos directly into. You can also move the position of the photo inside of the frame for placement that's just right. I use frames in almost every website, flyer and social media post that I create. Photo grids are like an enhancement on a typical frame. Photo grids are a group of frames pre-arranged for you. The grids can be of a single photo or of individual associated photos. Photo grids are one of the hidden gems of Canva hacks that tons of professional designers use to create standout designs.
Feature #5 - PDF Editor
Canva has a robust editor for PDF files. You can edit text, change images, add signatures, rearrange pages and more. This is super useful when creating documents where you need to make adjustments for different clients. The PDF editor is also great for making minor adjustments to pitch decks for presentations too. This is the easiest PDF editor that I have used, and the great part is that it's free.
In Conclusion
I can't help but rave about the amazing features I regularly use in Canva. It's an absolute game-changer for anyone wanting to unleash their creativity. First off, the background remover feature is a dream come true. It effortlessly transforms images, giving them a whole new dimension and allowing me to create visually stunning compositions. The vast element library is my go-to source for inspiration. It's like having a bottomless well of ideas right at my fingertips. The photo frames feature adds a touch of elegance and professionalism to my visuals, elevating their overall impact. Lastly, the PDF editor is a real time-saver. It streamlines the process of creating and editing documents, making it incredibly convenient for both personal and professional use.
